The GAME ETF from Betashares is designed to track the performance of a basket of global shares involved in video gaming and esports. Video gaming is becoming more popular amongst all demographics as advancements in mobile computing and cloud servers make things like virtual and augmented reality more user friendly and accessible.
GAME will invest in global companies involved in the development or publishing of video games, Esports (online viewing and participation in video game competitions) and hardware (e.g. gaming consoles or platforms). To be considered in the portfolio companies must meet liquidity criteria and generate at least 50% of revenue from video games and esports.
We think GAME could be used by investors as a tactical or satellite position in a diverisied portfolio, provided investors do not consider it as a replacement of a diversified international shares portfolio (given its niche focus).
